Councillors act to curb anti-social behaviour in Iceland car park

Earlier this year, your local Councillors became aware of anti-social behaviour occurring at night in the car park behind Iceland in Station Approach Hayes. This included people racing cars up and down the car park, tooting car horns, engines revving, shouting, throwing glass bottles around, taking nitrous oxide and leaving the silver cannisters scattered around, and playing very loud music late at night.

Cllr Alexa Michael spoke to affected residents and liaised with Council officers to find a solution to the problem. She said: “It is not right that children are being woken up because of rowdy behaviour. Rather than locking the car park after the shops closed, It was agreed to install speed bumps in the car park to deter people from racing their cars. These speed bumps were installed in July. It is also intended to install notices in the car park to remind people not to play loud music in the car park.”

Following the installation of the speed bumps, your Councillors are pleased to report that residents have not seen the usual handbrake turns, burnouts and cars racing up and down the car park. We would also like to pass on our thanks to the local Police team for their support.

If residents hear excessively loud music during the day, they should contact Public Protection on 0300 303 8657 or e-mail [email protected]. If the noise occurs between 7pm and 2am on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a Bank Holiday, please contact the Council’s Out of Hours Noise Service on 0300 303 8671. This car park is enforced by APCOA so they will also report back to the  Council if they see something amiss.
