Enforcement Begins on Bromley Waitrose Access Road

The Metropolitan Police have employed Britannia Parking to begin enforcement of the restrictions on the access road towards Waitrose which is located between Bromley Police Station and Bromley South Railway Station. The restrictions are being enforced by a newly installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera.

The access road is owned by the Police and the no-stopping restrictions have always existed but they have never been enforced. The access road has been used for parking and as a drop-off area for the station. For this reason, the access road has been heavily congested and potentially dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. In addition to this, there have been several occasions when Police vehicles have been delayed on the road when responding to emergencies.

Thomas Turrell AM and Peter Fortune MP have written to the Managing Director of Southeastern Railways to ask the rail operator to identify a permanent drop-off zone at the station.

The enforcement contract has been organised by the property team at the Metropolitan Police and not by officers based at Bromley Police station.

Thomas said: “Enforcement action is long overdue on this access road. However, we were advised enforcement would begin earlier this year and then received no updates until the action

had begun. Drivers should have been given more notice that enforcement would begin and explaining where it would cover.”
