Thomas was elected as the London Assembly Member for the Bexley and Bromley in May 2024. At City Hall, he is the Conservatives Group Chief Whip, and the spokesman for Transport and the Environment.
As a London Assembly Member Thomas has been campaigning for a greater police focus on reducing car theft across Bexley and Bromley, an investigation into TfL’s handling of the A20 temporary speed limit, improved bus services in both boroughs, new Town Centre police teams, and new bases to keep neighbourhood police officers based in the communities they serve.
He lives in Shortlands with his wife and their two cats. Prior to being elected to City Hall, he spent more than 10 years working in the financial services sector. Outside of his work Thomas has served as School Governor, Public Governor of an NHS Foundation Trust and as a Charity Trustee – including serving as Vice-Chair of a national charity. Locally Thomas also helped found a Rail Users Group to give commuters a more direct voice with rail operators.
Thomas was a Councillor for Hayes & Coney Hall from 2022 till 2026. During his time on the council he served as Assistant Executive for Environment (2022-24), Snow Friends Champion (2022-24), Vice-Chairman of Renewal, Recreation and Housing Committee (2023-24), as well as Vice-Chairman, then Chairman of the Children, Education and Families Committee (2025-26). He was also Deputy Consort in the civic year 2025-2; supporting his wife, Councillor Gemma Turrell, in her year as Deputy Mayor of the borough. He was also the Council’s representative on the Local Advisory Board of Nash College, and Clarion Housings South-East London Resident Scrutiny Committee.
As a Councillor he helped secured over £60,000 of investment in the area, with projects such as transformation for children’s play areas, improving local parks and improving local shopping parades. He also helped secure additional resource for the police for tackling speeding locally.
